Protest at Nomarch's Office

On March 4th Nautilos en Drasi in cooperation with Friends organised a theatrical happening outside the Nomarchia as a protest against the destruction of the wetlands with a focus on Dipi. Under a banner with the slogan `Wetlands are not for landfill' masked protesters designated Nomarch, Mayor and Minister threw a box marked `responsibility' between them. The media were present and there was good TV and press coverage. A deputation, including our Vice President, Carol Christ addressed the Nomarch's Council and questioned the Vice Nomarch before cameras. As a result of these meetings the Nomarch agreed to double fines for non-compliance with orders to remove illegal landfil. The Council voted 50,000 euros to pay for the removal of the baza dumped on Dipi and will attempt to educate the public not top degrade the wetlands. An important precedent has been set that will hopefully bear fruit in the battle for the Gulf of Kalloni
