Alikudi Pool

Alikudi Pool is the
best preserved terminal pool on the east side of the Gulf of Kalloni. The
Pool is public land owned by the Municipality of Polychnitos. Discussions
with the Mayor of Polychnitos are taking place about the possibility of
declaring it a nature reserve. This would mean pedestrian access only and
the Polychnitos bulldozer would not maintain the shore track. This spring
an individual owning a house nearby illegally attempted to drain the pool
by digging a channel to the Gulf. Fortunately Friends of Green Lesbos was
able to fill it in before any damage occurred. The identity of the culprit
is known and should try again we will be asking for legal action against
him. When the Pool is declared a nature reserve he would be liable for
damages.
